The diagram illustrates how leather is produced from animal skins.
Overall, the production comprises twelve main steps, commencing with raw hides being delivered from a farm and ending with the finished leather being waxed. Additionally, several stages involve chemicals or other substances, and the longest stage is curing, which lasts 30 days.
Initially, animal skins are delivered from a farm before being sorted into small and large hides. Once sorted, the hides are manually trimmed, after which salt is added to them. The salted hides are then left to cure on racks for 30 days prior to being soaked in water for 12 to 24 hours.
The process continues with the hair being removed with a knife. The hides are then pickled in a drum with salt and acid before being tanned with chemicals for 48 hours. Following this step, colouring agents and oil are added to colour and soften the leather. Once treated, the leather is dried by machines, and at the final stage, it is manually waxed.
