Phân tích đề & dàn ý

Phân tích đề

  • Dạng bài: Task 2 – Discuss both views and give your opinion. Bắt buộc bàn cả hai quan điểm VÀ nêu rõ ý kiến cá nhân (ở mở bài, thân bài 2 và kết bài).
  • Tách hai quan điểm:
  • View 1: Capital punishment → should be abolished.
  • View 2: Capital punishment → is still necessary → as a deterrent for serious crimes.
  • Chú ý: lý do của View 2 là RĂN ĐE (deterrent). Nếu chọn View 1, phần phản biện ở thân bài 1 phải nhắm thẳng vào tác dụng răn đe, không chuyển sang ý khác.
  • Đây là chủ đề nhạy cảm: giữ giọng văn học thuật, trung lập; không dùng số liệu hay nghiên cứu tự bịa.
  • Từ khoá:
  • capital punishment → the death penalty / execution
  • be abolished → be removed from legal systems / be ended
  • a deterrent for serious crimes → discourage people from committing serious crimes
  • Quan điểm chọn: ủng hộ View 1 (bãi bỏ), với 2 lý do: (1) nguy cơ xử oan không thể sửa chữa, (2) tù chung thân bảo vệ xã hội hiệu quả không kém và nhân đạo hơn.

Some people argue that the death penalty should be abolished, while others claim that it is still needed to deter people from committing serious crimes. Despite some arguments in favour of this punishment, I strongly believe that capital punishment should be removed from legal systems because it risks executing innocent people and more humane alternatives exist.

A compelling argument can be made that capital punishment is necessary to deter serious crimes. This is because the fear of being executed may discourage potential offenders from committing crimes such as murder. For example, when a notorious killer is sentenced to death, would-be criminals may think twice before committing similar crimes. Nonetheless, this line of reasoning is flawed because many serious crimes are committed in moments of extreme anger or under the influence of drugs, when offenders rarely think about the consequences. Therefore, the deterrent effect of the death penalty seems limited.

While the desire to prevent serious crime is understandable, I firmly contend that capital punishment should be abolished for two main reasons. Firstly, legal systems are not perfect, so innocent people may be wrongly convicted. As a result, an execution can never be reversed if new evidence later proves that the convicted person did not commit the crime. More importantly, alternatives such as life imprisonment can protect society just as effectively. In many countries, for instance, dangerous offenders serving life sentences are permanently kept away from the public, and some take part in education and rehabilitation programmes. Thus, not only can such punishments keep society safe, but they also leave room to correct mistakes and to reform offenders.

In conclusion, both perspectives on capital punishment have valid points. Nevertheless, I fervently believe that it should be abolished because it risks irreversible mistakes and more humane punishments can protect society equally well.

It is indisputable that the impact of the death penalty has garnered widespread attention in recent years Some people argue that capital punishment should be abolished, while others believe that it is still needed to deter serious crimes. Despite some arguments in favorour of this severe punishment, I strongly believe that capital punishment should be removed from legal systems.

A compelling argument can be made that execution is an effective way to curb crime rates. For example, in high-profile cases, seeing serious offenders, such as murderers, being brought to justice and permanently removed from society acts may act as a warning to at-risk individuals would-be offenders. This punishment is a powerful tool in suppressing offenses, ensuring public security. Nonetheless, this line of reasoning is flawed because it overlooks the fact that there are many circumstances where lawbreakers were later exonerated after being convicted. This emphasizes the flaws in the legal system, which raises ethical concerns in society due to irreversible mistakes many serious crimes are committed in moments of anger or under the influence of drugs, when offenders rarely think about the punishment they may face. Therefore, the deterrent effect of the death penalty seems limited.

In spite of some undeniable possible merits of the death sentence, I firmly contend that this method punishment should be abolished for two main reasons. Firstly, some people who are convicted are later found to be innocent, and an execution can never be reversed if such a mistake occurs. This is because it contradicts More importantly, the death penalty conflicts with the justice system's goal of reformation reform over revenge. The ultimate goal is to help criminals realise their mistakes and prevent them from re-offending, and other measures, such as a life sentence, can achieve this while still protecting the public. As opposed to ending criminals' lives, the alternative ways are more humane. Such alternatives are also more humane than ending criminals' lives. Therefore, not only can such substitutes they allow wrongdoers to make amends, but they also avoid leave room to correct legal mistakes.

In conclusion, while the death penalty can serve as an effective deterrent against committing serious criminal behavior although some people see the death penalty as a deterrent, I fervently believe that such punishment it should be abolished on moral grounds and because more humane alternatives exist.

Nhận xét của thầy

  • Điểm mạnh: quan điểm rõ ràng (bãi bỏ án tử hình); dùng đúng khung Discuss both views; vốn từ tốt (brought to justice, exonerated, irreversible, make amends, reformation over revenge); giọng văn học thuật, phù hợp chủ đề nhạy cảm.
Ý "án oan" nên chuyển sang làm lý do ở thân bài 2.
  • Thân bài 2 chỉ có một lý do và thiếu ví dụ; giáo trình yêu cầu hai lý do, mỗi lý do có giải thích và ví dụ.
  • Kết bài mâu thuẫn: "while the death penalty can serve as an effective deterrent" thừa nhận đúng điều thân bài 1 vừa phản bác. Nên viết "although some people see it as a deterrent".
  • Mở bài chưa nêu hai quan điểm: dạng Discuss both views cần paraphrase cả hai phía ngay câu đầu.
  • Sai từ: "at-risk individuals" là người dễ bị tổn thương, không phải kẻ có ý định phạm tội → "would-be offenders".
  • Khẳng định quá tuyệt đối: "This punishment is a powerful tool in suppressing offenses, ensuring public security" quá chắc chắn; dùng "may / can".
  • So sánh sai cấu trúc: "As opposed to ending criminals' lives, the alternative ways are more humane" → "Such alternatives are more humane than ending criminals' lives".
  • Chính tả: bài dùng lẫn favor / behavior / offenses với chính tả Anh – Anh; nên thống nhất một kiểu.
